Kyle Stockmal of the New York University men's basketball team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Player of the Week after leading the Violets to their first-ever sweep of the UAA Midwest trip.
Stockmal averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting a scorching 83.3% (15-18) from the floor and an astonishing 91.7% (11-12) from three-point range in the two games.
In NYU's 81-71 victory at University of Chicago on Friday, Stockmal poured in a career-high 26 points while going 8-10 from the field and 7-8 from three. His seven threes were one off the school record and made him just the fourth player in school history to hit seven or more treys in a game.
Stockmal then led the Violets to just their second win ever at Washington University on Sunday, 89-75, with 24 points on 7-8 shooting and 4-4 from beyond the arc. He added four assists in the victory as NYU shot a season-high 66.0% (31-47) for the game, including 75.0% (18-24) in the second half.
The Midwest sweep was not only the first in school history, but only the fifth by any team in the history of UAA men's basketball.
This is Stockmal's first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor and first career ECAC Player of the Week award.
The 17th-ranked Violets return to the court on Friday for a Tear It Up! contest at Coles. The squad hosts UAA foe Carnegie Mellon University at 8:00 pm.
