The New York University Department of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation has hired a pair of assistant strength and conditioning coaches, Andre Brinson and Jachin Brown. The duo will be filling two new roles in the department under newly-hired Strength and Conditioning Coach Curtis Williams.
Both Brinson and Brown have extensive experience in strength and conditioning. Brinson has worked with many professional and amateur athletes in football, golf, tennis, baseball, judo, hockey, track, and mixed martial arts. He is presently a sports performance coach with Velocity Sports, and he previously worked as a field manager with the New York Road Runners Club.
A 2002 graduate of Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuropsychology, Brinson was a four-year member of the Orange football team, playing primarily on special teams. As a senior, he blocked three punts, tying the Syracuse school record for blocks in a season.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Brinson also holds certifications from the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine), USATF (USA Track & Field) and USAW (USA Weightlifting).
A native of Tallahassee, FL, Brinson resides in Brooklyn.
Brown is also presently a sports performance coach with Velocity Sports. He previously worked as a personal trainer at New York Sports Club and as a strength and conditioning coach with the ASA College football program.
As an athlete, Brown has been nationally ranked in martial arts and holds black belts in judo, jiu-jitsu and tae kwon do. He also played semi-professional football for the New York Bandits of the Five Star Football League.
Brown, who is currently a candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree in health sciences at Hunter College, is a licensed CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) of the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and holds a Combine 360 certification from Under Armour.
A native of the Bronx, Brown resides in Astoria, NY.
