A pair of runners represented New York University at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Friday in Marietta, OH.

Senior Bernier Lauredan and junior Calvin Lee competed in the 800 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, for the Violets at Don Drumm Stadium.

Lauredan, who was making his third NCAA Championships appearance (2007 Indoor, 2008 Outdoor), posted a time of 1:53.14 and finished fifth in his preliminary heat.  The 2007 All-American (distance medley relay) did not qualify for Saturday's final, as only the top eight finishers advanced.

Lauredan's time was only 15th best of the 17 runners who participated.

Lee, who was making his first NCAA Championships appearance, finished 14th in the 16-man field with a time of 9:28.77.

Peter Kosgei of Hamilton College won the race with a time of 8:56.67.

On Thursday, senior Jesse Schneider finished in seventh place in the 10,000 meters and claimed his fourth All-America honor.

Schneider, who will also compete in the 5,000 meters on Saturday, is a three-time cross country All-American.

Posting a time of 31:21.81 in oppressive heat, Schneider earned his first All-American honor in track & field, as well as two points for the Violets in the team competition.

"Jesse ran a great race in tough conditions," said NYU head coach Nick McDonough.  "It certainly wasn't optimal for a 10k race."

William Kaul of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the event with a time of 30:54.56.

Also running for NYU on Thursday was Matt Turlip in the preliminaries of the 1,500 meters.  Placed in the second heat, the sophomore's time of 3:53.85 was good enough for seventh place overall and was fast enough to qualify for Saturday's 12-man final.

"In his first-ever NCAA track & field appearance, Matt did exactly what he needed to do to make the final," McDonough explained.
